POST-TET HEALTH ISSUES: RETURNING TO WORK BUT THE BODY IS NOT YET READY

21/02/2026

As the Tet holiday concludes, many people return to their daily work routines feeling sluggish and struggling to concentrate. According to experts, this is a fairly common condition caused by sudden changes in daily schedules, eating habits, and physical activity levels during the holidays, which means the body requires more time to readapt.

Below are common health issues encountered after Tet and ways to help the body recover effectively.

Digestive disorders, bloating, and loss of appetite

Consuming large amounts of protein-rich foods, fats, alcohol, and soft drinks for many consecutive days causes the digestive system to become “overloaded”. After Tet, many people experience bloating, indigestion, constipation, or mild diarrhea. To improve this condition, you should return to a light, simple diet with green vegetables and fruits, drink sufficient water, and limit fried foods. Additionally, supplementing with yogurt or probiotic-rich foods helps rebalance the intestinal microbiota.

Fatigue, lack of energy, difficulty concentrating

Staying up late, traveling extensively, and insufficient sleep cause the body to fall into a state of prolonged sleep deprivation. Consequently, when returning to work, the brain has not yet adapted, leading to lethargy and reduced work performance. Adjust your sleep schedule to an earlier time, seek morning light exposure, engage in light physical activity, and drink enough water to help your circadian rhythm stabilize more quickly.

Rapid weight gain, feeling of heaviness

Many people gain 1–3 kg after Tet due to consuming energy in excess of their needs and reducing physical activity. This feeling of heaviness makes returning to the work routine even more difficult. The solution is to return to a balanced diet, reduce refined carbohydrates, increase green vegetables, and maintain light daily exercise such as walking for 20–30 minutes.

Sleep Disorders

Staying up late and excessive phone usage at night during Tet holiday causes the biological clock to be disrupted. After Tet, if you find it difficult to fall asleep early or experience shallow sleep, you should limit electronic device usage before bedtime, avoid caffeine in the afternoon, and maintain a consistent sleep schedule.

So when is it necessary to see a doctor?

Experts recommend that if the above symptoms last for more than a week or signs appear such as severe abdominal pain, vomiting, prolonged diarrhea, excessive fatigue, dizziness, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, or digestive disorders that do not improve, patients should go to a medical facility for an immediate check-up. These may be signs of metabolic disorders, gastroenteritis, blood pressure disorders, or other underlying diseases.

Listening to your body and proactively adjusting your daily habits from the very first days after Tet will help the process of returning to work go more smoothly. In particular, seeking early medical consultation when necessary is the best way to protect your own health.
