HOW TO DETECT THE RISKS OF STROKE EARLY?

Stroke (also called cerebrovascular accident) is an acute, sudden, highly dangerous disease. The cause is intracerebrovascular obstruction, associated with cardiovascular disease and hyperlipidemia or due to intracerebrovascular rupture, relating to hypertension but without treatment or insufficient treatment. ​
 
The World Stroke Organization estimates that one in every 6 people will suffer from stroke. By which, in Vietnam particularly, more than 200,000 people suffer from stroke each year, more than 50% of deaths and only 10% of stroke patients recover completely. ​

F.A.S.T – Rules for early detection of stroke ​

Although there are many early warning signs of stroke, in order to make it easy to remember, the American National Stroke Association provides the warning signs group "F.A.S.T" to help people recognize common stroke symptoms.​ 

F – Face
Asymmetrical face, philtrum deviation or unilateral mouth distortion which manifest apparently when patients laugh or expose their teeth.​

A – Arms
Check for arm, leg weakness or paralysis by asking patients to evenly raise both hands, legs up, paralysis is present in the side is weaker, or drop down first.​

S – Speech
Unusual language: ask patients to speak, repeat a simple phrase. If it is not fluent, voice is slurred or unable to talk, that is an abnormal sign.​

T – Time
If any 1 of these 3 signs manifests, it indicates that a patient has a very high risk of stroke. Urgently, take a patient to the medical facility in which stroke is treatable.​
