AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL HOSPITAL (AIH) SUCCESSFULLY HOSTED AN ONCOLOGY SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE FEATURING SPEAKERS FROM RAFFLES HOSPITAL IN SINGAPORE AND HCMC ONCOLOGY HOSPITAL

On the morning of December 14, 2024, American International Hospital (AIH) organized an International Scientific Conference on the topic of "New Advancements in Cancer Care and Treatment." The event featured speakers from HCMC Oncology Hospital, Raffles Hospital in Singapore, and American International Hospital (AIH). The conference attracted nearly 100 doctors from leading hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces, to participate in networking, learning, exchanging experiences, and updating advanced medical knowledge.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Vo Duc Hieu, MD, Second Degree Specialist (BS.CKII), Deputy Director of HCMC Oncology Hospital, shared that: cancer case and related mortality in Vietnam is increasing at an alarming rate. According to GLOBOCAN 2022 statistics, Vietnam recorded over 180,000 new cancer cases and more than 120,000 deaths. Vietnam currently ranks 20th in Asia and 101st globally in terms of new cancer cases.
Dr. Vo Duc Hieu emphasized the importance of research, training, and collaboration to stay updated with current advancements in cancer treatment and care. This extends beyond treatment aspects such as radiation therapy and cancer surgery, encompassing early detection and screening, as well as aspects like clinical nutrition for patients and colorectal cancer surgery. These efforts aim to optimize treatment strategies for patients.

As part of the program, 06 topics, including “Advancement in Radiation Therapy”; “Management of Patients After Colorectal Cancer Surgery: Nutrition and Medication”; “New Advancements in Clinical Oncology”; “Cancer Screening and the Challenges of Effective Cancer Screening”; “Enhancing Care and Treatment for Patients with Breast Cancer”; “The Role of Biologics in Breast Cancer Treatment” were delivered by 06 presenters who are leading oncology doctors and experts from Raffles Hospital in Singapore, Oncology from HCMC Oncology Hospital and American International Hospital (AIH).

Assist. Prof. Le Dinh Phuong Thao, School of Global Public Health, Boston University (USA), one of the guests attending the conference, shared that: “I’m currently conducting a research project in Vietnam, collaborating and working with 3 universities and 6 hospitals to trial a Stress self-management intervention program (Self Help Plus) for patients with breast cancer and gynecological cancer. The project focuses on developing evidence-based models to support the mental and psychosocial health of cancer patients.I attended the conference to understand more about oncology care and treatment system in Vietnam. I was quite impressed with the presentation on Early Cancer Screening delivered by Dr. Do Van Liem (Second Degree Specialist) from Oncology Hospital and the session on Enhancing Care and Treatment for Patients with Breast Cancer by Dr. Mai Thanh Cuc (Second Degree Specialist) from American International Hospital (AIH).Hopefully, in the future, cancer patients in Vietnam can have timely mental and psychosocial care and interventions to support optimal treatment outcomes and quality of life.

The International Scientific Conference sucessfully concluded. The highly informative knowledge delivered at the conference has contributed to the updating advancements in oncological care and treatment for clinical doctors. This, in turn, aims toward more effective and comprehensive treatment, giving a spark of hope for patients with cancer.
