VIRAL FEVER PRECAUTIONS IN CHILDREN

Current hot weather easily causes viral infection and fever in children. There are more than 200 viral mutants that have been subdivided and most of them are commonly less harmful to children. However, some dangerous viruses can harm children demanding attention such as viruses cause Dengue hemorrhagic fever, hand, foot and mouth disease, measles, influenza, chickenpox, etc.

In order to thoroughly understand about viral fever and its prevention, parents firstly need to understand and realize the signs of viral fever!

► Signs of viral fever onset:

Fever: possibly mild or high fever with above 39 Celsius degrees.
Body ache, lethargy, headach
Cough, sneeze, rhinorrhea, nasal congestion
Vomit, diarrhea
Fussiness, poor or refused breastfeeding.

Most of children with viral fever will reduce their symptoms and gradually recover in several days to weeks. However, parents should seek medical consultation immediately when children have critical signs as below:

Lethargy, difficult to wake up
Poor or refused breastfeeding
Vomit everything, no antipyretic response
Startle, jerking, limb tremor, weakness and paralysis or fall.
Lethargy, cold extremities, curtis marmorata, tachypnea, cyanosis, abdominal pain, bloody mucus in stools bleeding or any sign causing parents’ corncern

► How to prevent viral fever in children?

The best way to prevent viral fever in children is maintaining good personal hygiene by:

Clean the house and children's toys regularly and keep the surrounding environment clean and airy to prevent the entrance of harmful agents.
Maintain personal hygiene: wash hands before meals, after toilet use, limit children from putting toys in their mouths.
Besides, limiting children's contact with infected ones or wearing masks in crowded outdoor places is also an effective precaution.
