► Maintain a consistent sleep schedule: A consistent bedtime routine can help promote a consistent sleep schedule. About 1 hour before bedtime, start a bedtime routine with your child, such as changing pajamas, brushing teeth, reducing lights, and telling a story to your child. For older children, parents make sure that they stop using phone, computer, and television which emit the blue light that can interfere with sleep during this time.
► Promote healthy habits during daytime: Daytime behavior can affect how well you sleep at night of all ages. Encourage your child to engage in physical games or exercise daily, as well as eating healthy, nutrient-dense foods.
► Make sure the bedroom is airy and dark: An important part of sleep is adjusting bedroom condition according to the weather. Turn on the fan or air conditioner cool and not too cold. Consider hanging blinds to prevent sunlight that waking the child up too early.
► Adjust your sleep schedule before going back to school: After a long time without going to school, if the child wakes up and sleeps later than usual, you should start adjusting his/her sleep schedule gradually. By that way, your child will avoid drowsiness and distraction on the school-return day.
