PROACTIVE PROTECTION AGAINST RSV WITH BEYFORTUS (NIRSEVIMAB)

PROACTIVE PROTECTION AGAINST RSV WITH BEYFORTUS (NIRSEVIMAB)

28/05/2026

RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) is one of the most common causes of bronchiolitis, pneumonia, and severe respiratory failure in newborns and young children, especially during the first months of life when a baby’s immune system is still immature. Currently, the monoclonal antibody Beyfortus (Nirsevimab) is considered an early preventive solution against RSV for newborns and young children.

Unlike traditional vaccines, which require time for the body to develop immunity, Beyfortus provides direct passive immunity, helping babies defend against RSV immediately after administration.

How does Beyfortus work?

Beyfortus is a long-acting IgG1 monoclonal antibody that binds to the RSV F protein, thereby preventing the virus from entering respiratory cells and helping protect children throughout the RSV season — the period when the virus spreads most actively.

Recommended populations

  • Newborns and infants during their first RSV season, including both full-term and preterm infants.

  • Children under 24 months of age at high risk for severe RSV disease, such as those with congenital heart disease, chronic lung disease, or extreme prematurity.

According to international clinical studies, Beyfortus helps:

  • Significantly reduce the risk of RSV-related hospitalization

  • Reduce the risk of intensive care treatment associated with RSV

  • Provide protective efficacy lasting approximately 6 months (equivalent to one RSV season)

High safety profile in young children

Beyfortus has been shown to be safe and well tolerated. Post-injection reactions are generally mild and temporary, such as pain or redness at the injection site, mild fever, or fussiness. In addition, Beyfortus may be administered concurrently with other vaccines as prescribed by a physician.

Reference dosage

  • Children weighing under 5 kg: 50 mg (a single intramuscular injection)

  • Children weighing 5 kg or more: 100 mg (a single intramuscular injection)

  • High-risk children during their second RSV season: 200 mg (two separate 100 mg injections)

The monoclonal antibody Beyfortus (Nirsevimab) from Sanofi (France) is now available at American International Hospital (AIH). We are committed to using high-quality medications with clear origins and to strictly following proper storage protocols and safe immunization procedures for children.
