DROOLING IN BABIES: IS IT WORTH WORRYING?

Drooling is common in babies from the age of two months when the salivary glands become functionally active. If your baby is drooling excessively for a long time, it’s better to learn what’s causing it to curb it.

Causes:

Teething: During this time, other conditions also appear such as: discomfort, bad sleep, mild fever, and a habit of putting everything in reach into the mouth.
Respiratory illnesses such as infection of upper respiratory system, bronchiolitis, etc.
Disorders like mental retardation, cerebral palsy, autism, etc.

When to see a doctor?

If your baby is still alright, there is no reason to worry about the excessive drooling. The condition will go away on its own.

If the following conditions accompany excessive drooling, it’s good to visit a doctor for proper consultation and treatment:

Fever of 38 oC or above.
Irritability, abnormal crying.
Poor eating and improper sleep.
Etc.
