AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL HOSPITAL (AIH) STRENGTHENS EMERGENCY RESPONSE CAPACITY THROUGH FIRE SAFETY TRAINING AND DRILLS

09/10/2026

Given the nature of the healthcare environment, fire prevention and firefighting at American International Hospital (AIH) place particular emphasis on ensuring the safety of patients, visitors, and staff throughout emergency response and evacuation procedures.

Rapid Detection – Safe Evacuation – Firefighting & Rescue – Effective Coordination were the four key objectives of AIH’s fire prevention, firefighting, and rescue training and drill program conducted on October 8 and 9, 2026.

October 8: Strengthening Emergency Response Skills Through Training

Before taking part in the practical drill, AIH staff received training to reinforce their knowledge and skills in fire prevention, firefighting, rescue, and emergency response.

The training focused on alarm procedures upon detecting a fire, evacuation protocols, the use of initial firefighting equipment, and coordination among departments during emergency situations. In a hospital setting, particular attention must be given to each patient’s health condition and mobility when implementing evacuation procedures.

October 9: Fire Drill at the Operating Room Area

On October 9, AIH conducted a simulated fire scenario in the Operating Room area on the fourth floor, caused by an electrical short circuit at a socket connected to auxiliary equipment. When the simulated fire exceeded the capacity of the initial response team to control it, the alarm was activated and relevant departments promptly implemented firefighting, rescue, and evacuation procedures.

The scenario involved a patient in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) who had undergone a cesarean section approximately one hour earlier, was under postoperative monitoring, and required assistance with mobility. The PACU team coordinated with anesthesiologists, nurses, Security, and other relevant departments to move the patient away from the hazardous area while maintaining continuous monitoring of the patient’s condition during transportation.

The patient was transported on a postoperative bed via the designated emergency exit to a safe assembly area outside the building. There, doctors and nurses continued to monitor the necessary clinical parameters before handing the patient over to the receiving team.

Prepared to Respond in Every Emergency Situation

Through the training and drill program, AIH reviewed the entire emergency response process, from incident detection and alarm activation to evacuation, firefighting, and rescue coordination. Each department practiced its designated responsibilities to ensure that information was communicated clearly and response procedures were implemented consistently.

In particular, the simulated evacuation of a postoperative patient enabled the AIH team to practice integrating emergency response with the continuity of medical care, with patient safety remaining the highest priority.

Proactive training, regular drills, and ongoing review of emergency response plans are part of AIH’s continued efforts to maintain a safe and professional hospital environment that is well prepared for emergency situations.
