26/04/2025

Anyone facing a health accident, confusion, and worry is unavoidable. Especially for foreigners, Vietnamese expatriates living and working in Vietnam, that concern seems even greater. At the American International Hospital (AIH), there have been many cases of foreign patients being treated and supported for international patient transfers successfully, ensuring patients receive professional care and peace of mind with a team accompanying them through difficult times. Recently, there was a notable case of a 77-year-old Vietnamese-American male patient who suffered a stroke in March 2025.

On March 11, 2025, patient N.B.Đ (77 years old) was brought to American International Hospital (AIH) in a state of right-sided paresis and aphasia following complications of cerebral hemorrhage on the background of extensive cerebral infarction. After undergoing 03 weeks of intensive treatment, combining medical care and physical therapy, his health condition has shown significant improvement. According to the evaluation from the doctor, the patient qualifies for transport to Boston (USA) as per the family's wishes to facilitate subsequent care and treatment. The American International Hospital (AIH) coordinated with Raffles Medical Group and representatives from the international insurance provider GeoBlue to quickly arrange a commercial flight with an accompanying international nursing team to escort Mr. N.B.Đ safely back home at a lower cost compared to using dedicated air ambulance services. All medical records, diagnoses, and "Fit-to-fly" assessments were conducted by the AIH medical team according to international standards to ensure safe medical transport.

MSc. Dr. Duong Thuy Lien – Head of General Internal Medicine Department at AIH, the attending physician for patient N.B.Đ, stated: In order to best prepare for the patient transfer, minimizing the risks that may occur during transportation, the AIH medical team continuously updated the entire health status progression of the patient to the healthcare facility that will continue treating the patient in Boston (USA) to decide the departure time, and at the same time prepared thoroughly medically, in order to promptly handle unexpected situations that may occur due to pressure changes and long flight duration. This ensures maximum safety for the elderly patient with a complex past medical history.
