Nighttime is the time when your body needs to rest, relax and recover after a long day of working. Our body needs sleep as well as air and foods to keep it functions properly. During sleep, the body will be self- recovered, and the brain will generate connection of new thoughts simultaneously and help maintaining your memory. A state of prolonged sleep deprivation or poor quality of sleep may cause serious consequences. Therefore, healthy balanced habits include sleep is the important key for a healthy life!
 
► Too little sleep may increase risks:
 
  • Hypertension
  • Diabetes
  • Obstructive Sleep Apnea
  • Obesity
  • Heart attack
  • Cerebrovascular Accident (Stroke)
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Psychosis
 
► So how many hours should we sleep a day?

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), total time for ideal sleep in each person is different and based on many factors, including age, specifically:
 
  • Neonates (0 - 3 months): 14 – 17 hours
  • Neonates (4 – 11 months): 12 – 15 hours
  • Toddlers (1 – 2 years old): 11 – 14 hours
  • Preschool age (3 – 5 years old): 10 – 13 hours
  • School age (6 – 13 years old): 9 – 11 hours
  • Teenagers (14 – 17 years old): 8 – 10 hours
  • Adults (18 – 64 years old): 7 – 9 hours or 6 – 10 hours
  • Senior citizens (65 years old): 7 – 8 hours
  • Especially, during the 1st trimester of pregnancy, women need more sleep than usual.
