WARNING OF A PNEUMONIA OUTBREAK ASSOCIATED WITH THE SPREAD OF THE NEW CORONAVIRUS
Since December 2019, a new coronavirus (nCoV) causing pneumonia in Wuhan (China) has been discovered and is at risk of spreading. The virus so far has no specific treatments and preventive vaccines.
nCoV-infected people have acute symptoms such as cough, fever, shortness of breath and may also develop severe pneumonia, acute respiratory failure or death, especially in those with chronic illnesses or immunodeficiency.
As the virus is developing in a complicated way, there is a high risk of the epidemic spreading into Vietnam due to its close trade and tourism relationship with China. To proactively prevent pneumonia caused by nCoV, the Ministry of Health recommends the community to take following measures:
1. Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When direct contact is needed, wear medical face masks properly and keep a distance.
2. Keep your body warm, wash your hands often with soap, use antiseptic mouthwash to prevent pneumonia.
3. Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing with a tissue, preferably with a paper tissue to reduce the spread of respiratory secretions.
4. Avoid contact with animal farms or wildlife.
5. Those returning from Wuhan city, Hubei province, China or having close contact with infected persons in Wuhan should go to the nearest medical facility for timely examination and treatment if having signs of fever, cough or shortness of breath within 14 days after exposure.
At American International Hospital (AIH), the assessment and treatment of respiratory diseases follow the latest guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health of Vietnam with:
